Show “The Simpsons” has long been known for its ability to predict the future. Its writers somehow manage to spoil everything: the presidency of Donald Trump, the COVID pandemic, economic crises and other significant events of the past 30 years. All this has already been on “The Simpsons” before it actually happened. Let’s try to remember what this show has told us about cryptocurrency and see if its predictions were true.

“Frinkcoin”

The 13th episode of the 31st season was released in February 2020 and it was called “Frinkcoin”. It tells us a story about the unknown, but brilliant and ambitious Professor Frink who created his own cryptocurrency. Frinkcoin overnight became the most stable financial instrument, and the professor himself became the richest man in Springfield.

In this episode Jim Parsons, the star of the Big Bang Theory series, talks about the principles of how Crypto World functions. The creators of the series, represented by Parsons, introduces the audience of “The Simpsons” to the work of the blockchain, crypto wallets, decentralization and even mentions the father of crypto Satoshi Nakamoto.

Speaking of the Bitcoin creator (BTC) — in the universe of the Simpsons the secret of his identity was unraveled. However, they decided not to reveal the secret in this episode: “Also we know who Satoshi is, but we’re not telling.”

The episode clearly shows the conflict between the traditional and crypto markets. Fans of the series and crypto enthusiasts were happy about what they saw. Moreover, Binance CEO Changpeng Zhao even reposted the video to his Twitter account.

Crypto experts called the release of such series a positive development. The animated series has a large audience of different ages, and its introduction to the Crypto World will benefit everyone. The Simpsons explained in a rather simple language what a blockchain is and spoke about the advantages of cryptocurrency payments. It is believed that the number of potential crypto customers may increase thanks to The Simpsons.

Fans of conspiracy theories and predictions immediately noticed that the Simpsons called cryptocurrency the money of the future. Such a nickname was an interesting choice, since that is exactly how Satoshi Nakamoto presented the crypto assets. “Cash of the future” — that is how Satoshi Nakamoto’s concept of digital currency is presented. So far, it is difficult to call cryptocurrency the main means of payment now. But its popularity is growing every day, so we can assume that this prophecy from “The Simpsons” might someday come true.

More crypto in the show

  • In the 17th episode of the 8th season, which was released back in 1997, in one of the scenes there is an inscription Crypto Barn. It was made long before the birth of Bitcoin and the Crypto World.
  • In another episode, Bart Simpson writes multiple times: “XRP to hit $589+ by EOY” on the school board. Ripple fans were fascinated with this episode. Recall that the maximum value of the XRP coin reached $3.40, and now it is trading below 1 dollar. It is extremely difficult to imagine such a development of events. Therefore, crypto enthusiasts might be still optimistic about this prophecy of “The Simpsons”.
  • In season 26, episode 1, “The Junkyard Clown”, Krusty the Clown talks about his bankruptcy due to a bad Bitcoin trading experience. The series was released in 2014.
  • In the 18th episode of the 32nd season of The Simpsons, one could find a message where there was an infinity sign opposite the price of Bitcoin. Crypto enthusiasts immediately announced this sign as a positive trend.

Where else on TV shows is cryptocurrency mentioned?

In general, the crypto industry is a rich ground for inspiration for screenwriters and producers. Direct references to the crypto market in pop culture projects often pleasantly surprise the audience and attract a lot of attention. So not only “The Simpsons” like to discuss crypto, but also other popular shows do, too.

For example, the popular animated series “Family Guy” at one time also touched upon the topic of cryptocurrency. In season 14, Peter Griffin thinks about investing in Bitcoin as a lifesaver for his family in financial trouble. Or in the second season of “Stranger Things” the main characters also discuss the concept of Bitcoin (BTC).
